KUALA LUMPUR, June 16 — Share prices on Bursa Malaysia closed mixed today supported by gains in selected heavyweights, dealers said. At 5pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was up 0.08 of a point to 1,722.24 after hovering between 1,718.44 and 1,726.78 throughout the day.

Losers outpaced gainers by 500 to 334, while 297 counters were unchanged, 683 untraded and 13 others suspended.

Total volume slipped to 1.53 billion units worth RM1.53 billion from 1.55 billion units worth RM1.52 billion yesterday.

Leading movers in the FBM KLCI component stocks were Digi, which improved 12 sen to RM5.58. Petronas Chemical, YTL Corp and Astro rose two sen each to RM6.10, RM1.52 and RM3.01 respectively and FGV added seven sen to RM1.72.

A dealer said most Asian shares declined today as Greece’s debt talks and the coming two-day Federal Reserve meeting sapped risk appetite.

Hong Leong Investment Bank said the KLCI had dropped 7.8 per cent from its year-to-date high of 1,867 reached on April 27 to 1,722 level yesterday. However, the investment bank believed that the 1,700 psychological level will be strongly defended, given the presence of local funds’ support.

Of the top heavyweights, Maybank, TNB and Public Bank shed two sen each to RM9.15, RM13.22 and RM18.78 respectively. Axiata advanced two sen to RM6.47 while Sime Darby was flat at RM8.58.

Among actively-traded stocks, IFCA MSC added 15.5 sen to RM1.06 sen and Frontken gained 1.5 sen to 24 sen. AirAsia and AirAsia X eased 1.5 sen each to RM1.64 and 20.5 sen respectively and VSolar slid two sen to 14 sen.

On the scoreboard, the FBM Emas Index decreased 15.50 points to 11,899.32, FBMT100 Index fell 15.14 points to 11,596.86, FBM Emas Syariah Index declined 6.97 points to 12,419.44 and the FBM 70 dropped 76.80 points to 13,003.79. The FBM Ace jumped 62.94 points to 6,074,22. The Finance Index fell 26.56 points to 15,467.78. The Industrial Index added 0.03 of a point to 3,177.98 and the Plantation Index gained 13.86 points to 7,268.13.

Main Market volume decreased to 891.32 million shares worth RM1.30 billion from 980.65 million units worth RM1.64 billion yesterday. Turnover on the ACE Market improved to 474.63 million units valued at RM185.27 million from 439.31 million units valued at RM132.90 million . Warrants appreciated to 159.44 million shares worth RM43.71 million from 124.54 million shares worth RM32.34 million. Consumer products accounted for 84.02 million shares traded on the main market, industrial products (149.68 million), construction (36.90 million), trade and services (415.99 million), technology (64.38 million), infrastructure (12.71 million), SPAC (14.58 million), finance (39.05 million), hotels (1.12 million), properties (49.31 million), plantations (15.69 million), mining (5,000), REITs (7.88 million), and closed/fund (0). — Bernama
