KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 31 ― Bursa Malaysia extended its gains at mid-morning today as the overnight rise in Wall Street fuelled optimism in the local equities market.

At 11am, the benchmark index stood at 1,845.71, up 2.93 points, after opening 1.81 points better at 1,844.59.

Among the top gainers were British American Tobacco, which soared 56 sen to RM69.52, followed by LPI Capital, which rose 32 sen to RM18.10, while Allianz added 30 sen to RM12.90.

Among the heavyweights, Maybank, Public Bank and Axiata erased 2.0 sen to RM9.68, RM18.56 and RM7.05 respectively, while Tenaga Nasional bagged 22 sen to RM13.32.

Among actives, Dagang Nexchange appreciated 2.0 sen to 39 sen and Berjaya Corporation increased 2.5 sen to 51.5 sen.

Market breadth was extremely positive with gainers outpacing decliners 477 to 194, while 280 counters were unchanged, 704 untraded and 27 others suspended.

Turnover stood at 1.1 billion shares worth RM606.89 million.      

On the scoreboard, the FBM Emas Index increased 26.13 points to 12,815.4, the FBMT100 Index bagged 22.15 points to 12,450.17, and the FBM Emas Shariah Index rose 33.89 points to 13,262.16.

The FBM 70 was 34.09 points higher at 14,044.66, the FBM Ace surged 100.76 points to 6,644.48 and the Industrial Index appreciated 10.69 points to 3,238.89.

The Plantation Index shed 1.03 points to 8,514.04 and the Finance Index declined 12.09 points to 16,779.18. ― Bernama
