KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 16 — Shares on Bursa Malaysia extended yesterday's losses to open lower today on continued profit taking in most heavyweights.
At 9.25 am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI stood at 1,778.83 points, down 8.53 points, after opening 2.0 points lower at 1,784.84 points.
On the scoreboard, the Plantation Index dipped 20.66 points to 7,922.46, the Finance Index lost 52.34 points to 16,437.67, and the Industrial Index slipped 10.07 points to 3,089.1.
The FBM Ace fell 143.28 points to 6,056.16, the FBM Emas Shariah dropped 106.68 points to 12,587.19, the FBM Emas Index declined 82.7 points to 12,269.96 and the FBMT100 Index depreciated 71.97 points to 11,953.16.
The FBM 70 plunged 135.93 points to 13,322.91.
Market breadth was negative with decliners thumping gainers 594 to 35 with 154 counters unchanged, 853 counters untraded and 12 others suspended.
Turnover stood at 383.81 million shares worth RM171.86 million.
Of the heavyweights, Maybank and Sime Darby decreased five sen each to RM9.53 and RM9.10, respectively, TNB was 22 sen weaker at RM12.28, while Public Bank was flat at RM18.46.
Among actives, Sumatec Resources and Compugates Holdings eased half-a-sen each to 31 sen and 5.5 sen, respectively, while Focus Dynamics and Sanichi Technology were each flat at half-a-sen and 8.5 sen. — Bernama
