KUALA TERENGGANU, May 26 — Petronas will transform its business to emerge as the market leader in the retail segment, says Petronas Dagangan Bhd General Manager for Supply and Distribution.
He said although Petronas was the largest oil company in the country but in terms of retail sales the company was in second place.
“However, in terms of retail sales in the east coast, we rank number one with 155 petrol kiosks,” he told reporters after the nationwide launch of the new Primax 95 in Wakaf Baru, Gong Badak, here today.
Mohd Shobri said each year Petronas planned to increase the number of petrol stations but the final decision was based on market research and consumer demand.
Petronas, which has 75 petrol stations in Pahang, 40 in Terengganu and 36 in Kelantan, planned to open another 40 nationwide by year-end.
Mohd Shobri said the new petrol stations would be more of one-stop centres where one can fuel up, shop for consumer durables, repair and service cars and conduct banking and postal transactions at the Kedai Mesra stores within.
“This is the difference we are bringing to customers at our petrol stations.
Each Petronas petrol station will be benchmarked against our competitors and we will upgrade them accordingly,” he said.
Mohd Shobri said some of the petrol stations, which have been operating for long would be upgraded as the business was always ongoing. — Bernama
