KUALA LUMPUR, May 8 ― The ringgit opened lower against the US dollar as the greenback rebounded after the US Federal Reserve showed continued central bank support for the US economy.

At 9:15 am, the ringgit was quoted at 3.2525/2535 versus the greenback against 3.2490/2520 at 5 pm yesterday.

Fedweal Reserve Chairman Janet Yellen maintained her stance that the US economy still needed a boost given the “considerable slack” in its labour market.  

A dealer said the domestic unit was expected to trade between 3.2400 and 3.2600 against the US dollar throughout the day.  

The ringgit was mostly higher against other major currencies.

It was slightly higher against the Singapore dollar at 2.6010/6020 from yesterday’s 2.6015/6045 and rose against the yen to 3.1919/1941.                                               

The ringgit was almost flat against the British pound at 5.5133/5163 from yesterday’s 5.5136/5196 close and fell against the euro to 4.5236/5256 from 4.5203/5255. ― Bernama
