KUALA LUMPUR, May 7 — The ringgit closed higher against the US dollar today on continuous buying interest following Malaysia’s positive external trade figures for March released today.
At 5pm, the ringgit was quoted at 3.2490/3520 from its close yesterday of 3.2520/2550.
A dealer said the ringgit was also boosted by demand from foreign funds.
Malaysia’s total trade in March rose by 4.6 per cent to RM120.46 billion from the same month last year, boosted by higher exports versus imports.
Against other currencies, the ringgit traded mixed. It was slightly higher against the Singapore dollar at 2.6015/6045, from 2.6039/6065 yesterday. It rose against the euro to 4.5203/5255 from 4.5284/5332 previously.
Against the yen, the ringgit was traded lower to 3.1985/1020 from 3.1882/1924, and lower against the British pound to 5.5136/5196 from 5.5073/5130. — Bernama
