KUALA LUMPUR, April 17 — Bursa Malaysia closed higher today as the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) extended gains on continuous buying interest seen in key heavyweights and lower liners.
The FBM KLCI ended 5.17 points better at 1,850.54 after trading between 1,847.4 and 1,852.13 through the day.
Of the heavyweights, Maybank gained 8 sen for RM9.83, Public Bank surged 24 sen to RM19.98, CIMB improved 5 sen to RM7.40, with TNB easing 2 sen to RM11.88.
Among actives, Berjaya Food put on 2 sen to RM1.53, Redtone International edged up 0.5 sen to 76 sen, YKGI Holdings rose 1.5 sen to 38.5 sen, while SCH Group was flat at 23 sen.
On the scoreboard, the Industrial Index chalked up 0.26 of a point to 3,191.32 and the Finance Index soared 108.46 points to 16,950.1. However, the Plantation Index eased 13.52 points to 8,912.49.
The FBM Emas Index appreciated 24.60 points to 12,855.99 and the FBMT100 Index rose 22.97 points to 12,494.26, with the FBM 70 falling 20.36 points to 14,138.38. The Ace Index was 45.97 points higher at 6,837.58.
Losers edged gainers 409 to 405 while 333 counters were unchanged, 479 untraded and 15 others suspended.
Turnover was higher at 2.52 billion shares valued at RM2.113 billion from the 2.40 billion shares valued at RM2.25 billion yesterday.
Main Market volume stood at 1.751 billion units worth RM1.965 billion from the 1.909 billion units worth RM2.137 billion yesterday.
Turnover on the ACE market rose to 712.827 million shares valued at RM133.40 million from the 434.62 million shares valued at RM102.79 million yesterday.
Warrants dropped to 41.88 million units valued at RM5.854 million from the 44.39 million units valued at RM6.81 million.
Consumer products accounted for 59.53 million shares traded on the Main Market, industrial products 460.5 million, construction 121.14 million, trade and services 684.05 million, technology 53.0 million, infrastructure 9.73 million, SPAC 33.789 million, finance 62.69 million, hotels 4.12 million, properties 242.56 million, plantations 15.79 million, mining 23,000, REITs 4.56 million and closed/fund 171,500. — Bernama
