KUALA LUMPUR, April 2 — Share prices on Bursa Malaysia ended the morning session higher today, lifted by gains in selected heavyweight counters, dealers said.
At 12.30 pm, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) improved 4.76 points to 1,852.52, after hovering between 1,846.82 and 1,852.57 during the morning trading session.
Among the heavyweight counters, Public Bank and UMW Holdings emerged the top gainers as at the midday break, gaining 34 sen each to RM19.52 and RM11.30, respectively.
Gainers almost doubled the number of losers at 430 to 255, while 332 counters were unchanged, 642 untraded and 14 others suspended.
A total of 1.2 billion shares worth RM1.17 billion were traded.
On the scoreboard, the Industrial Index rose 2.2 points to 3,193.11, the Finance Index climbed 62.76 points to 16,688.37 and the Plantation Index advanced 28.18 points to 8,959.75.
The FBM Emas Index gained 38.27 points for 12,828.71, the FBMT100 Index increased 34.69 points to 12,479.54, the FBM 70 rose 49.25 points to 14,012.29, with the FBM Ace earning 4.58 points to 6,755.07.
Among actives, Ingenuity Consolidated, Malaysia Airlines and R&A Telecommunication were flat at 10 sen, 21 sen and 4.5 sen respectively, but Salcon eased one sen to 75 sen.
As for the heavyweights, Maybank declined two sen to RM9.65, Tenaga fell 10 sen to RM11.86, and Axiata shed three sen to RM6.71.But CIMB rose three sen to RM7.19. — Bernama
