KUALA LUMPUR, March 14 — Share prices on Bursa Malaysia remained low at the end of the morning session today on weak buying support especially in heavyweight counters amid the absence of market-moving news.
At lunch break, the benchmark FBM KLCI ended at 1,1812.08, down 6.78 points, after fluctuating between 1,806.25 and 1,817.08 throughout the morning session.
Heavyweights CIMB lost nine sen to RM7, Astro fell 11 sen to RM3.04 and AMMB Holdings shed 14 sen to RM6.97.
One dealer said market sentiments remained weak, weighed down by disappointing economic data from China.
On the scoreboard, the Finance Index lost 78.96 points to 16,303.57, the Plantation Index slipped 9.82 points to 8,916.54 and the Industrial Index fell 4.67 points to 3,164.55.
The FBM Emas Index dwindled 56.16 points to 12,549.77, the FBMT100 Index was 53.71 points lower at 12,219.18, the FBM Ace lost 0.45 of a point to 6,637.94 and the FBM 70 eased 91.73 points to 13,766.88.
Market breadth was negative, with losers outnumbering gainers 506 to 150, while 266 counters were unchanged, 703 untraded and 26 others suspended.
Turnover totalled 688.99 million shares worth RM892.18 million.
Among actives, KNM-WA and Sumatec Resources were flat at 20.5 and 30.5 sen, respectively, and Malaysia Airlines gained half-a-sen to 24 sen.
Of the heavyweights, Maybank lost two sen to RM9.49 and Sime Darby shed three sen to RM9.18, while Tenaga Nasional was flat at RM11.94. — Bernama
