KUALA LUMPUR, March 12 — Shares on Bursa Malaysia extended their bearish performance at the end of the morning session today weighed down by losses in finance counters.

At lunch break, the benchmark FBM KLCI ended at 1,818.62, down 9.93 points, after fluctuating between 1,813.49 and 1,827.33 throughout the morning session.

Maybank erased eight sen to RM9.52, CIMB lost six sen to RM7.10 and Public Bank fell 12 sen to RM18.98.

However, gains in the plantation counters helped to limit the losses.

The Plantation Index rose 6.8 points to 8,975.57.

The Finance Index declined 109.17 points to 16,358.24 and the Industrial Index decreased 15.03 points to 3,171.37.

The FBM Emas Index fell 66.71 points to 12,612.14, the FBMT100 Index was 69.1 points weaker at 12,280.19, the FBM 70 eased 86.41 points to 13,901.55 and the FBM Ace lost 20.87 points to 6,594.48.

Market breadth was negative, with losers outnumbering gainers 414 to 221, while 319 counters were unchanged, 677 untraded and 15 others suspended.

Turnover totalled 829.12 million shares worth RM964.54 million Among actives, Astral Supreme lost one sen to 20 sen, Wintoni fell half a sen to 7.5 sen and Xidelang Holdings declined two sen to 40.5 sen.

Of the heavyweights, Tenaga Nasional erased two sen to RM11.94, while Sime Darby and Axiata were flat at RM9.21 and RM6.48 respectively. — Bernama
