KUALA LUMPUR, March 6 ― Shares on Bursa Malaysia opened mixed this morning on mild buying interest in the absence of fresh market direction.

The benchmark FBM KLCI stood at 1,828.04, down 1.07 points at 9:06 am, after opening 0.01 of a point at 1,829.12.

Gainers outpaced losers 117 to 64, while 155 counters were unchanged, 1,287 untraded and 15 others were suspended.

Turnover stood at 134.22 million shares worth RM35.53 million.

HwangDBS Vickers Research, in a note today, said dry domestic economic and corporate news flows, not to mention the dry weather, could keep investors mostly on the sidelines today.

Meanwhile, according to consensus view, Bank Negara Malaysia's monetary policy meeting today is likely to maintain the overnight policy rate at its current level.

Wall Street finished broadly flat overnight as investors awaited fresh updates on the geopolitical conflict in Ukraine.      

On the scoreboard, the Finance Index gained 6.33 points to 16,467.45, the Industrial Index earned 1.84 points to 3,136.71 and the Plantation Index added 1.59 points to 8,797.3.  

The FBM Emas Index increased 0.81 of a point to 12,646.43, the FBM 70 rose 25.6 points to 13,877.6, the FBM Ace was 21.03 points higher at 6,555.86 but the FBMT100 Index slipped 0.49 of a point to 12,324.67.     

Among actives, Scomi gained 1.5 sen to 48 sen, Hubline was flat at five sen but Ingenuity shed half-a-sen to 10 sen.

As for heavyweights, Maybank, CIMB and Axiata all added one sen each to RM9.66, RM7.09 and RM6.55, respectively, but TNB slipped two sen to RM11.94 and Sime Darby lost seven sen to RM9.14. ― Bernama
