KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 11 — Shares on the Bursa Malaysia extended the  positive momentum from earlier in the day to mid-afternoon, driven by gains in  selected heavyweight counters.

At 3.06pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) rose 5.2 points to 1,821.34, after opening 0.26 of a point lower at 1,815.88.

Maxis increased six sen to RM6.99 despite delivering a weak fourth quarter financial result, while DiGi rose eight sen to RM5.08.

On the scoreboard, the Finance Index gained 27.44 points to 16,656 points, and the Plantation Index improved 58.22 points to 8,488.08 points, but the Industrial Index slipped 3.36 points to 3,082.8 points.  

The FBM Emas Index jumped 35.35 points to 12,573.73 points, the FBMT100 Index advanced 32.37 points to 12,272.62 points, with the FBM 70 adding 26.09 points for 13,792.27 points.

The FBM Ace, however, shed 23.02 points to 6,127.69 points.

Market breadth was positive as gainers trounced losers by 388 to 333, while 304 counters were unchanged, 568 untraded and 17 others suspended.    

Turnover amounted to 1.77 billion shares worth RM1.35 billion.

Among actives, Minetech Resources increased 2.5 sen to 32 sen, Sona Petroleum improved four sen to 54 sen, and KNM Group was 4.5 sen higher at 74 sen, while Hubline was flat at 5.5 sen.

Of the heavyweights, Maybank stood unchanged at RM9.82, with TNB two sen down at RM11.78.

CIMB and Axiata however, went up seven sen and five sen each to RM7.22 and RM6.55, respectively. — Bernama
