KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 11 — Share prices on Bursa Malaysia ended the morning session on a high note today in line with the stronger regional bourses and gains in selected heavyweights pushing up the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI), dealers said.
The benchmark index rose 4.97 points to 1,821.11, after hovering between 1,815.57 and 1,821.66 throughout the morning session, with expectations of better results by Maxis propping up investor sentiment.
Maxis will announce its fourth quarter financial results later today.
On the scoreboard, the Finance Index surged 33.69 points to 16,663.04, the Plantation Index advanced 51.71 points to 8,481.58, but the Industrial Index shed 1.64 points to 3,084.52.
The FBM Emas Index soared 33.58 points to 12,571.96, the FBMT100 Index gained 31.13 points to 12,271.38, and the FBM 70 improved 25.88 points to 13,792.06.
The FBM Ace however, dipped 26.29 points to 6,124.42.
Gainers outnumbered losers 358 to 312, with 309 counters unchanged, 614 untraded and 17 others suspended.
Turnover totalled 1.42 billion shares worth RM1.05 billion.
Among actives, Minetech and KNM Group added three sen each to 32.5 sen and 72.5 sen respectively, with Sona Petroleum rising 3.5 sen to 53.5 sen, while Sumatec Resources was flat at 31 sen.
Of the heavyweights, Maybank and TNB rose two sen each to RM9.84 and RM11.82 respectively, CIMB improved seven sen to RM7.22 and Axiata was five sen higher at RM6.55. — Bernama
