KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 6 — Shares on Bursa Malaysia continued to post gains at mid-afternoon on buying support, with the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) rising 5.08 points to 1,790.96 as at 3.02pm.
The benchmark index fluctuated between 1,783.68 and 1,791.34 since morning.
Despite opening lower in early trade, the local market bounced back lifted by gains in blue chips and index-linked counters.
On the scoreboard, the Finance Index increased 53.77 points to 16,450.11, the Plantation Index rose 21.8 points to 8,353.96 and the Industrial Index gained 19.01 points to 3,044.18.
The FBM Emas Index was 31.41 points higher at 12,367.09, the FBMT100 Index rose 29.89 points to 12,077.1, the FBM 70 went up 16.66 points to 13,608.34 and the FBM Ace earned 19.3 points to 6,035.97.
Gainers trounced losers 379 to 275, while 294 counters were unchanged, 645 untraded and 17 others were suspended.
Turnover amounted to 1.01 billion shares worth RM1.14 billion.
Among actives, Iris Corp added one sen to 45.5 sen and Minetech Resources inched up half-a-sen to 23.5 sen.
For heavyweights, Maybank rose six sen to RM9.69, TNB increased eight sen to RM11.44, and Sime Darby added one sen to RM8.83.
Meanwhile, both CIMB and Axiata Group were flat at RM6.91 and RM6.50, respectively. — Bernama
