KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 22 — Shares on Bursa Malaysia were traded slightly lower, in early trading session, weighed by losses in selected heavyweights.
At 9.13am, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was 3.59 points lower at 1,811.75 after opening at 1,816.57.
Market breath was negative as losers edged gainers 100 to 112 with 164 counters unchanged, 1,189 untraded and 23 others were suspended.
Turnover stood at 126.05 million shares worth RM74.467 million.
However, HwangDBS Vickers Research said the stock market could extend its recovery pattern today and would probably inch its way closer towards the resistance threshold of 1,825 ahead.
Meanwhile, Wall Street saw a mixed performance last night with its key equity bellwethers ending between -0.3 per cent and +0.7 per cent as rising economic optimism was offset by poor corporate earnings reports.
Among actives, KNM added one sen to 54.5 sen, Asian Pac edged up half-a-sen to 23 sen, Minetech Resources was flat at 19.5 sen and Xidelang fell 7.5 sen to 55 sen.
As for heavyweights, Maybank shed six sen to RM9.80, TNB eased eight sen to RM11.42, Axiata slipped five sen to RM6.59 and Petronas Chemicals was flat at RM6.72.
On the scoreboard, the Industrial Index added 3.06 points to 3,080.35, the Plantation Index rose 9.27 points to 8,493.35 and the Finance Index shed 2.97 points to 16,682.88.
The FBM Emas Index eased 17.14 points to 12,541.62, the FBMT100 Index lost 18.81 points to 12,248.03, the FBM Ace garnered 1.89 points to 5,993.67 but the FBM 70 decreased 0.25 of-a-point to 13,920.55. — Bernama
