KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 24 — Shares on Bursa Malaysia extended gains at mid-morning boosted by rising optimism of an improving economic outlook.
At 11.03am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) stood at 1,839.69, up 6.83 points, after fluctuating between 1,833.52 and 1,840.34.
A dealer said market sentiment was bullish following heavy gains on Wall Street in overnight trade which lifted the key equity barometers by between 0.5 per cent and 1.1 per cent to close at fresh all-time highs.
On the local front, the Finance Index rose 31.551 points to 16,828.4, the Industrial Index improved 25.27 points to 3,132.43, and the Plantation Index appreciated 19.13 points to 8,775.68.
The FBM Emas Index increased 33.22 points to 12,680.2, the FBMT100 Index garnered 31.98 points for 12,416.83, the FBM Ace climbed 4.42 points to 5,607.32 but the FBM 70 decreased 7.859 points to 14,045.2.
Gainers led losers 238 to 234, with 264 counters unchanged, 823 untraded and 17 others suspended.
Turnover totalled 274.29 million shares worth RM189.01 million.
Among actives, Sumatec added 1.5 sen to 28 sen, Tiger Synergy gained one sen to 14 sen, Solution Engineering earned half-a-sen to 34.5 sen and Datasonic advanced 13 sen to RM2.38.
CSL was unchanged at 19.5 sen.
Of the heavyweights, Maybank gained four sen to RM9.99, Tenaga perked six sen to RM11.06, CIMB added one sen to RM7.62 and Sime Darby improved two sen to RM9.36.
Axiata was unchanged at RM6.75. — Bernama
