KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 10 — The FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) ended the morning session 3.83 points higher at 1,845.7 on persistent buying interest amid positive sentiments over the global economic recovery, dealers said.

The local bourse also maintained its bullish performance as it registered a new all-time intra-day high of 1,846.05 at 12.27 pm, surpassing yesterday’s intra-day high of 1,843.62.

Heavyweight Maybank, which contributed most of the gains in the benchmark index, rose seven sen to RM10.02, while another heavyweight, Kuala Lumpur Kepong, which emerged as a top gainer in the morning session, surged 46 sen to RM24.38.

Market breadth, however, was negative with losers outpacing gainers by 331 to 292, with 306 counters unchanged, 633 untraded and 19 others suspended.   

Turnover stood at 743.576 million shares worth RM787.105 million.

On the scoreboard, the Finance Index rose 18.76 points to 16,894.54, the Plantation Index perked 29.18 points to 9,087.18 and the Industrial Index was 9.28 points better at 3,135.78.

The FBM Emas Index gained 19.43 points to 12,741.12, the FBMT100 Index advanced 20.22 points to 12,476.16, the FBM Ace garnered 12.44 points to 5,616.27 while the FBM 70 fell 0.5 point to 14,175.83.

Among actives, Sumatec Resources added 1.5 sen to 30 sen, Barakah Offshore gained eight sen to RM1.48 and Malaysian Airline System rose half-a-sen to 31.5 sen.

Of the heavyweights, Tenaga Nasional fell two sen to RM11, CIMB was flat at RM7.70 and Sime Darby added four sen to RM9.63.

Meanwhile, Bursa Malaysia Securities Bhd has issued an Unusual Market Activity (UMA) query to Infortech Alliance Bhd today due to the rise in the price and volume of the company’s shares recently.

In a statement today, it said the UMA query has been posted on Bursa Malaysia’s website, www.bursamalaysia.com, under the classification of “Listing Circular”. — Bernama
