KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 9 — The ringgit opened sharply higher against the US dollar in early trading today on higher buying interest in tandem with the cash market.
At 9.13am, the ringgit was quoted at 3.2215/2255 against a US dollar from Friday’s close at 3.2320/2350.
A dealer said buying appetite shifted towards the local note as investors were attracted to participate in the Bursa Malaysia.
Meanwhile, the ringgit was also traded mostly higher against other major currencies.
The local unit rose against the yen to 3.1252/1306 from 3.1637/1678 last week and strengthened against the Singapore dollar to 2.5739/5775 from 2.5767/5795 Friday.
The domestic currency improved against the British pound to 5.2601/2672 from 5.2821/2883 last week but eased against the euro to 4.4154/4212 from 4.3139/3187 Friday. — Bernama
