KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 6 — Berjaya Auto Bhd’s pre-tax profit for the second quarter ended October 31, 2013 increased to RM37.5 million from RM10.9 million reported in the same period last year.

Revenue rose to RM282.4 million, during the period under review, from RM217.3 million registered previously, it said in a statement today.

“The higher revenue was mainly due to good demand for the Mazda CX-5 and Mazda6 models in Malaysia and the sales contribution from Berjaya Auto Philippines Inc., which began operations in January,” it added.

On prospects, the Group said it would continue to adopt its current business strategy of further strengthening its competitive position in the automotive segment to gain market share and to increase shareholders’ value.

“Customers’ response to the recently launched Mazda CX-5 and Mazda6 models has remained strong to-date.

“The board is of the view that performance in for the remaining quarters will be satisfactory with the group planning to launch a few models, going forward,” it said. — Bernama
