KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 15 — The ringgit maintained a steady performance to close firmer against the US dollar today on sustained demand for most Asian currencies, including the ringgit, dealers said.

At the close, the ringgit appreciated against the greenback to 3.2010/2040 from 3.2040/2070 yesterday.

A dealer said regionally, the Japanese yen dropped against the greenback on dovish remarks by US Federal Reserve Chair nominee Janet Yellen, which boosted risk appetite among investors.

“There were market talks that the US monetary stimulus may be in place for an extended period,” he said.

The ringgit traded mostly higher against other major currencies today.

The local note appreciated against the Singapore dollar to 2.5629/5663 from 2.5683/5712 and firmer against the yen to 3.1898/1941 from 3.2255/2102 on yesterday.

Against the British pound, the ringgit fell to 5.1408/1466 from 5.1360/1424, but strengthened against the euro to 4.3069/3116 from 4.3107/3157 yesterday. — Bernama
