KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 18 — Shares on Bursa Malaysia remained firmer at mid-morning today on further buying interest in selected heavyweights, dealers said.
However, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI failed to sustain above 1,800 level as at 11.08am.
The benchmark index, which opened at 1,798.94, edged up 0.68 of a point to 1,798.1.
On the scoreboard, the Finance Index improved 31.568 points to 16,771.78, the Industrial Index increased 12.25 points to 3,089.5, while the Plantation Index slipped 16.99 points to 8,432.06.
The FBM Emas Index rose 14.83 points to 12,516.43, the FBMT100 Index advanced 16.8 points to 12,249.13, the FBM Ace surged 16.85 points to 5,512.65 and the FBM 70 was 69.64 points higher at 14,309.6.
Losers led gainers by 291 to 252, with 273 counters unchanged, 806 untraded and 15 others suspended.
It was a mild trading with total volume at 533.949 million shares worth RM701.237 million.
For the top gainers, Petronas Gas improved 28 sen to RM22.98, British American Tobacco was 20 sen higher at RM63.10 and Petronas Dagangan jumped 16 sen to RM29.80.
Among actives, Westports, which made its debut on the Main Market today, gained 14 sen to RM2.64 with 137.826 million shares changing hands.
Other actives, Destini-WA eased one sen to 12 sen and Malaysia Airlines shed half sen to 35.5 sen.
For heavyweights, Maybank and Axiata were both unchanged at RM9.93 and RM6.91, respectively, CIMB edged up one sen to RM7.50, while Petronas Chemicals slipped two sen to RM7.10. — Bernama
