KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 14 — Bursa Malaysia ended the morning session mixed today, amid a quiet market, dealers said.

At midday, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was 0.26 of a point better at 1,786.01, after fluctuating between 1,788.53 and 1,775.11 throughout the session.

A dealer said the local market was quiet today as some investors stayed on the sidelines, monitoring the progress of the US debt ceiling crisis, instead of taking any major position.

The shortened week due to the Hari Raya Aidiladha holiday tomorrow also weighed on investors’ buying interest, the dealer said.

On the scoreboard, the Finance Index declined 4.78 points to 16,687.02, and the Industrial Index slid 10.92 points to 3,057.14, but the Plantation Index rose 17.01 points to 8,377.5.

The FBM Emas Index dropped 12.16 points for 12,419.5, the FBM100 Index decreased 10.84 points to 12,152.57, the FBM 70 fell 64.53 points to 14,138.31, and the FBM Ace lost 47.06 points to 5,456.51.

Among actives, Hubline gained one sen for 6.5 sen, Xidelang improved two sen to 29.5 sen, with MAS flat at 35 sen.

Losers led gainers 370 to 228, with 278 counters unchanged, 733 untraded and 15 others suspended.   

Volume was thin at 792.735 million shares worth RM423.277 million.

Of the heavyweights, CIMB earned two sen to RM7.51, but Maybank was flat at RM10.

However, Axiata Group slipped two sen to RM6.89, while both Sime Darby and Petronas Chemicals shed one sen each to RM9.44 and RM7.05, respectively. — Bernama
