KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 24 — Bursa Malaysia remained in the red at mid-morning today, weighed by losses in heavyweights.         

At 11.03am, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was 7.24 points lower at 1,789.12. It had opened 5.87 lower at 1,790.78.

Among heavyweights, Maybank fell six sen to RM9.94, CIMB shed five sen to RM7.90, while Sime Darby and Maxis inched down one sen each to RM9.51 and RM7 respectively.

Axiata was flat at RM6.91. 

Bursa Malaysia’s subdued performance was also in tandem with most regional markets following the lower overnight close at Wall Street.

Japan’s Nikkei 225 eased 0.70 per cent to 14,639.15 and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng fell 1.08 per cent to 23,118.45.

Nearer to home, Singapore’s Straits Times Index edged down 0.05 per cent to 3,212.5. On the scoreboard, the Plantation Index improved 16.53 points to 8,353.9, the Industrial Index was flat at 3,048.24 and the Finance Index slid 195.38 points to 16,740.42. 

The FBM Emas Index was down 41.55 points to 12,423.63 and the FBM100 Index declined 41.22 points to 12,165.53, but the FBM Ace perked 8.84 points to 5,434.74.Decliners trounced advancers 334 to 196, with 265 counters unchanged, 785 untraded and 13 others suspended.

Volume stood at 702.40 million shares worth RM377.47 million.   

Among the actives, The Media Shoppe and China Stationery edged up half-a-sen to 16 sen and 20.5 sen respectively, Pelikan jumped six sen to 55.5 sen and Masterskill rose four sen to 40 sen.

Karambunai inched down half-a-sen to 10.5 sen. — Bernama
