KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 23 — Shares on Bursa Malaysia ended the morning session lower today, weighed down by losses in selected heavyweights.

As of 12.30pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was 5.08 points lower or 0.28 per cent at 1,796.75.

The key index moved between 1,793.28 and 1,800.3 throughout the session.

Heavyweights, Maybank eased eight sen to RM10.22, CIMB lost 11 sen to RM7.97, while Sime Darby and Petronas Chemicals both lost one sen to RM9.51 and RM6.92, respectively. Axiata was flat at RM6.91.

The lower performance of the local bourse was also in tandem with most regional markets.

Singapore’s Straits Times Index eased 0.73 per cent to 3,213.77 and Indonesia’s Jakarta Composite Index fell 0.89 per cent to 4,543.09.

On the scoreboard, the Plantation Index added 3.59 points to 8,337.49, the Industrial Index gained 0.44 of-a-point to 3,049.71 but the Finance Index declined 106.08 points to 16,924.19.  

The FBM Emas Index was down 36.87 points to 12,457.55, the FBM100 Index fell 34.35 points to 12,199.33 and the FBM 70 dipped 38.91 points to 14,084.37, while the FBM Ace rose 44.46 points to 5,404.41. 

Losers led gainers 383 to 230 with 279 counters unchanged, 697 untraded and 23 others suspended.

Trading stood at 1.17 billion shares worth RM713.26 million.

Among actives, The Media Shoppe gained 3.5 sen to 16 sen, Hovid added two sen to 30 sen, while Luster Industries and China Stationery were flat at 10 sen and 20 sen, respectively. — Bernama
