KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 11 — Shares on Bursa Malaysia remained on the uptrend at the end of the morning session today with volume exceeding one billion as investors continued to take advantage of the improved market sentiment, dealers said.

At 12.30pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) added 2.81 points to 1,767.76 after opening at 1,769.8.

Throughout the morning session, the benchmark index hovered between 1,767.39 and 1,776.11.

Elsewhere, it was a mixed trend with Japan’s Nikkei 225 surging 102.14 points to 14,525.50 while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng dropped 28.90 points to 22,947.75 and Singapore’s Straits Times declined 7.62 points to 3,116.27.

On the scoreboard, the Finance Index rose 35.721 points to 16,584.01, the Plantation Index increased 9.149 points to 8,286.35 and the Industrial Index improved 14.3 points to 3,004.74.

The FBM Emas Index gained 24.221 points to 12,255.73, the FBM100 Index added 23.301 points to 12,006.57, the FBM 70 jumped 44.19 points to 13,878.57 and the FBM Ace climbed 11.29 points to 5,095.35.

Gainers thumped losers by 381 to 267 with 290 counters unchanged, 642 untraded and 15 suspended.

The market was active with volume at 1.194 billion shares worth RM1.008 billion.

Among actives, Green Packet-WA added seven sen to 21 sen, Astral Supreme edged up three sen to 21.5 sen and Green Packet increased six sen to 45.5 sen.

Gainers, AEON Credit garnered 46 sen to RM16.80, British American Tobacco improved 40 sen to RM63.40 and AEON Co was 26 sen higher at RM14.62.

Heavyweights, Maybank was unchanged at RM10.08, Axiata edged up one sen to RM6.77 while slipped one sen to RM7.52.

Sime Darby improved four sen to RM9.52. — Bernama
