KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 10 — Shares on Bursa Malaysia continued to rise further at midday today as investors increased their holdings in most heavyweights, dealers said.

At the end of morning session, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) increased 15.44 points or 0.884 per cent to 1,762.47.

The benchmark index, which opened at 1,753.14, has moved between 1,753.14 and 1,774.14 throughout the morning session.

On the scoreboard, the Finance Index improved 144.441 points to 16,531.31,  the Plantation Index was 33.05 points higher at 8,257.76 and the Industrial Index went up 43.47 points to 2,994.02.

The FBM Emas Index surged 100.891 points to 12,209.86, the FBM100 Index climbed 97.27 points to 11,963.14, the FBM 70 advanced 81 points to 13,797.46 and the FBM Ace gained 69.07 points to 5,088.92.

Gainers thumped losers by 479 to 171, with 266 counters unchanged, 648 untraded and 13 suspended.

Turnover stood at 1.028 billion shares worth RM1.068 billion.   

Among actives, DVM Technology and DVM Technology-warr edged up half-a-sen each to eight sen and 3.5 sen respectively while Sona Petroleum-warr added one sen to 24.5 sen.

Top gainers, British American Tobacco gained 80 sen to RM63.08, AEON Credit jumped 62 sen to RM16.22 and PPB Group was up 50 sen to RM14.04.

Heavyweights, CIMB went up 13 sen to RM7.53, Petronas Gas rose 42 sen to RM21.30 while Maybank and Axiata were both unchanged at RM10.04 and RM6.76.

Sime Darby was up eight sen to RM9.49 and Maxis edged up one sen to RM6.91. — Bernama
