KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 9 — Share prices on Bursa Malaysia remained in positive territory at mid-morning today as investors took a cue from the improved performance on regional bourses, dealers said.
Gains in heavyweights pushed the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) 10.54 points or 0.611 per cent higher to 1,734.34 as at 11.05am.
On regional bourses, Japan’s Nikkei 225 surged 261.29 points or 1.89 per cent to 14,122.10, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng was 161.79 points or 0.72 per cent higher at 22,783.01 and Singapore’s Straits Times increased 38.86 points or 1.27 per cent to 3,087.21.
On the local front, the Finance Index jumped 98.81 points to 16,281.54, the Plantation Index improved 12.74 points to 8,166.44 and the Industrial Index increased 23.87 points to 2,924.94.
The FBM Emas Index advanced 71.39 points to 12,028.75, the FBM100 Index was 68.609 points higher at 11,785.64, the FBM 70 Index surged 67 points to 13,648.11 and the FBM Ace garnered 37.06 points to 5,012.91.
Gainers outnumbered losers by 356 to 134, with 209 counters unchanged, 865 untraded and 14 suspended.
Turnover stood at 466.148 million shares worth RM308.577 million.
Among actives, Asia Media Group edged up half a sen to 12.5 sen, Instacom Group-WB rose 10.5 sen to 11 sen and China Stationery was unchanged at 22 sen.
Of the heavyweights, Maybank and Sime Darby edged up two sen each to RM10.02 and RM9.42 respectively, Axiata rose three sen to RM6.75, CIMB gained 11 sen to RM7.30 and Petronas Chemicals jumped eight sen to RM6.58. — Bernama
