KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 3 — Bursa Malaysia was steady at mid-afternoon today, boosted by gains in the finance stocks, dealers said.

At 3pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was 8.39 points higher at 1,725.95, after opening 0.79 point better at 1,718.35.

On the scoreboard, the Finance Index declined surged 91.44 points to 16,184.69, Industrial Index earned 7.18 points to 2,897.65 and the Plantation Index rose 14.02 points to 8,178.78.

The FBM Emas jumped 63.78 points to 11,959.38, FBMT100 gained 62.91 points to 11,723.54, the FBM 70 Index added 97.18 points to 13,555.2 but the FBM ACE Index dipped 9.42 points to 4,876.47.

Advancers overwhelmed decliners 337 to 249, with 298 counters unchanged, 683 untraded and 13 others suspended.

Turnover stood at 694.83 million shares worth RM686.57 million.   

Among actives, Pesona Metro earned half-a-sen to 45.5 sen, Flonic Hi-Tec increased one sen to 12 sen, Digistar added two sen to 30 sen while MQ Technology eased 2.5 sen to 12 sen.

Among heavyweights, Maybank garnered 11 sen to RM10.10, Axiata rose nine sen to RM6.75 while Sime Darby and CIMB were flat at RM9.41 and RM7.18, respectively. — Bernama
