KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 2 — Share prices on Bursa Malaysia ended the morning session broadly lower on lack of buying interest, dealers said. 

The FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) closed mid-day trading at 9.27 points or 0.54 per cent lower at 1,718.31 after fluctuating between 1,714.95 and 1,724.76 throughout the morning session.

Decliners overwhelmed advancers 459 to 151, with 217 counters unchanged, 742 untraded and 13 suspended.

Turnover stood at 584.17 million shares worth RM440.15 million.

Losses in Axiata, Petronas Dagangan and Tenaga Nasional dragged the composite index down by a total of 3.131 points.

On the scoreboard, the Finance Index lost 86.46 points to 16,119.71, the Industrial Index was down by 13.27 points to 2,896.55, and the Plantation Index fell 50.60 points to 8,152.47.   

The FBM Emas Index dropped 73.95 points to 11,894.63, the FBMT100 was 69.09 points lower at 11,660.14, the FBM 70 Index decreased 105.17 points to 13,434.36 and the FBM ACE Index fell 34.23 points to 4,895.58.       

Among actives, Compugates Holdings fell half-a-sen to 5.5 sen while Pesona Metro and Asia Media were flat at 45.5 sen and 12 sen respectively.

For heavyweights, Maybank lost two sen to RM9.98, Axiata declined seven sen to RM6.67 but Sime Darby rose five sen to RM9.44. — Bernama
