KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 5 — Share prices on Bursa Malaysia were traded marginally higher at mid-morning today, with buying interest seen in selected heavyweights and penny stocks, dealers said.

As of 11.07am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) edged up 0.78 of a point to 1,783.29.

The barometer index, which opened 3.51 points higher at 1,786.02, has managed to go as high as 1,786.15 during the session.

JF Apex Securities expects the index to remain lackluster for this week, trading sideways below 1,800 points with thin volume transacted as investors stay away from the market in view of the upcoming Hari Raya holidays.

The Finance Index garnered 25.01 points to 16,870.3, the Plantation index rose 11.22 points to 8,359.67 and the Industrial index gained 6.27 points to 3,022.83.

The FBM Emas Index improved 6.58 points to 12,411.16, the FBM70 Index was up 12.64 points to 14,237.73, the FBMT100 increased 6.55 points to 12,156.89 and the FBM ACE Index advanced 37.43 points to 5,114.8.   

Gainers and losers were almost equal by 252 and 246, while 225 counters were unchanged, 853 untraded an 12 others suspended.

Total volume stood at 504.306 million shares, worth RM306.604 million transacted.       

Actives, Iris Corp was up 2.5 sen to 24 sen, Ingenuity Consolidated inched up half-a-sen to 8.5 sen and ETI Tech earned two sen to eight sen.

Heavyweights, Maybank went up two sen to RM10.34, CIMB and Petronas Chemicals were flat at RM7.84 and RM6.63, respectively, Axiata lost three sen to RM6.80, while Sime Darby and Maxis each shed one sen to RM9.50 and RM7.08, respectively.

Among the leading top gainers were Dutch Lady, which gained 32 sen to RM46.64, Batu Kawan jumped 30 sen to RM18.60, Pintaras Jaya advanced 28 sen to RM5.71 and BIMB Holdings was up 24 sen to RM4.56. — Bernama
