KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 5 — The ringgit opened higher against the US dollar in early trading today on renewed buying interest in emerging currencies, including the ringgit, dealers said.

At 9.13am, the ringgit was quoted at 3.2460/2500 to a US dollar from 3.2560/2590 at Friday’s close.

A dealer said the dollar slipped across the board today on renewed concerns after the United States posted a weaker job employment data last week.

Against other major currencies, the ringgit fell marginally vis-a-vis the Singapore dollar at 2.5495/5542 from 2.5511/5543 Friday and the local note declined against the yen to 3.2761/2808 from 3.2681/2727 last week.

The domestic currency also weakened against the British pound to 4.9576/9650 from 4.9332/9387 last week and was traded lower against the euro to 4.3065/3124 from Friday’s close at 4.3025/3071. — Bernama
