KUALA LUMPUR, July 1 — The Pekeliling Flats will be redeveloped into a commercial centre as it is strategically located on highly valued land, the Dewan Rakyat was told today.
Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Mansor said the Pekeliling Flats were also not suitable to be developed as affordable housing.
“It is more suitable as a commercial centre which can help boost the country’s economy in line with the KL City Plan 2020,” he said in reply to a question from Datuk Johari Abdul Ghani (BN-Titiwangsa).
Johari had asked about the redevelopment of the Pekeliling Flats in Jalan Tun Razak and whether the site could be for a People’s Housing Project (PPR), Public Housing (PA) or 1 Malaysia People’s Housing programme (PR1MA) to help city folk own affordable housing.
Tengku Adnan said the redevelopment project would be under the supervision of the Department of the Director-General Land and Mines, Public-Private Partnership Unit, Prime Minister’s Department and relevant government agencies. — Bernama
