SHAH ALAM, Oct 31 — Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil today launched the National Courier Day 2026 (HKN2026) celebration, recognising the industry’s RM6.9 billion contribution to the country’s digital economy, at the Selangor International Trade Centre.

Themed “Sustaining the Industry, Strengthening Trust,” the event was organised by the Malaysian Express Carriers Association (AMEC) with support from the Communications Ministry through the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).

MCMC said the government remains committed to strengthening the postal and courier industry through regulatory reform, strategic cooperation and digital transformation to improve service efficiency, industry competitiveness and consumer safety.

“On regulatory reform, the government is reviewing proposed amendments to the Postal Services Act 2012 (Act 741) and plans to gazette the Postal Services Regulations (Postal Service Security and Prohibited Postal Articles) 2026 (PSR2026), subject to the relevant approval process.

“These measures aim to strengthen security, industry accountability and consumer protection, in step with the rapid growth of e-commerce,” MCMC said in a statement today.

Also present were Communications Ministry secretary-general Datuk Abdul Halim Hamzah, MCMC managing director Abdul Karim Fakir Ali, AMEC chairman Ronald Tan, and representatives of government agencies, postal and courier industry players.

Parcel Shield, an initiative led by the Postal Forum with MCMC support, was also launched at HKN2026 to tackle parcel delivery fraud.

“The initiative, among others, encourages information sharing between courier companies and e-commerce platforms, and the dissemination of fraud alerts to enhance consumer protection and confidence,” the statement read.

HKN2026 further saw the signing of a memorandum of collaboration for the Courier Network Sharing initiative, a last-mile delivery pilot at selected locations.

“The project will assess the potential for infrastructure optimisation, reduced operational overlap and improved service access before expansion is considered,” the statement read.

Additionally, digital transformation is being strengthened through the National Address System (NAS) to improve address accuracy and delivery efficiency, and PAKEJ Map, which helps users locate more than 47,000 postal and courier service points nationwide.

HKN2026 further recognised industry personnel through the Best Courier Worker award, the Safe Driving Challenge and the MyCSP Courier Safety Passport programme, with emphasis on safety and service quality. — Bernama
