KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 29 — The Madani government respects all elected representatives regardless of their party’s size or political strength, Deputy National Unity Minister R. Yuneswaran said today, following Bersatu’s signing of a confidence and supply agreement (CSA) with the government.

The Segamat MP said that despite having a two-thirds majority in Parliament, the government should still engage with the opposition rather than assume it can act unilaterally.

“Unlike some coalitions that prioritise political grandstanding over genuine democratic bargaining, the Madani government has demonstrated that negotiations can be conducted with dignity, mutual respect and a firm commitment to democratic principles,” he said.

Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching said there was precedent for such an agreement, which could provide stability for the passage and implementation of the Budget.

“The priority must be to ensure that the rakyat receive tangible benefits, including fair access to constituency development resources.

“This support should come with a clear commitment to push for positive institutional reforms and hold the government accountable for delivering them,” the Kulai MP said.

Bersatu signed the CSA at Parliament today, pledging its support for the Supply Bill 2027, or Budget 2027, The Star reported.

Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin told reporters that, in return, the government had agreed to give the party’s MPs the same constituency development allocations as government MPs.

He said the agreement also covered institutional reforms, including proposals to limit the prime minister’s tenure to two terms and to separate the powers of the Attorney General.

Muhyiddin stressed that Bersatu remained in the opposition and would continue to provide checks and balances.

Muda’s Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman was also involved in the signing, which was facilitated by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.
