KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 28 — The number of flood evacuees housed at temporary relief centres (PPS) in Kedah rose to 192 people from 71 families as of 8am today, compared with 176 people from 66 families yesterday.
The State Disaster Management Committee Secretariat said all evacuees from Kampung Teroi Bukit and Kampung Titi Teras in the Yan district were housed at three PPS.
A total of 91 victims from 32 families were housed at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Teroi, while 36 people from 17 families were at Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina (SJKC) Pei Eng.
Dewan Lestari Guar Chempedak housed the remaining 65 people from 22 families.
In Perlis, Dewan Batu 5 in Kangar remained open as a transit centre, housing 16 flood evacuees from seven families as of 8am today.
Perlis Civil Defence Force (APM) director Lt Col (PA) Mohd Izaimi Md Daud said the number of those affected by flash floods from Kampung Telok remained unchanged from yesterday evening, with residential areas still experiencing stagnant floodwaters.
Previously, Bernama reported Mohd Izaimi as saying that the hall was opened at 1.50am last Monday, but no temporary relief centre (PPS) had been officially opened.
He said the state APM would continue to monitor the situation from time to time, and a PPS would be officially opened if the flooding worsened. — Bernama
