KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 21 — Malaysia and Japan are committed to strengthening security cooperation to combat transnational crime through information sharing and investigative collaboration between the Royal Malaysia Police and the National Police Agency (NPA) of Japan.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the matter was discussed during his meeting with Japan’s NPA deputy commissioner-general Tachikawa Koichi here today, on the sidelines of the 20th Asean Ministerial Meeting on Transnational Crime (AMMTC).
He said the discussions focused on expanding information sharing and strengthening investigative cooperation to combat drug trafficking, cybercrime, online scams and human trafficking.
“Transnational crime recognises no national boundaries. Therefore, cooperation among law enforcement agencies is crucial to ensure that preventive, detection and investigative measures can be carried out more effectively,” he posted on Facebook today.
Saifuddin Nasution said Malaysia would continue to strengthen security cooperation with Japan based on trust and mutual respect to safeguard the security and well-being of the people of both countries.
