KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 18 — Pakatan Harapan (PH) has completed vetting candidates who will contest the 16th Melaka state election, including checks with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), PH communications director Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil said.
He said the selected candidates will also be required to sign a bond set by the party, with fines imposed if they breach its terms.
“If there is a breach, a fine will be imposed. For MPs previously, the fine was RM10 million,” he told reporters after attending the Smart Parents Interactive Hub programme here today.
He said PH will announce its candidates on Oct 24, once the selection process is finalised.
The Communications Minister said PH is expected to select a mix of fresh faces and seasoned politicians, including those with previous election experience, whether as candidates or winners, adding that the line-up also reflects changes to the constituencies PH will contest following discussions with its coalition partners.
“From what I know, although the line-up has not been fully finalised, it will be a combination. Some have experience, some have contested elections before, some have won, and some may have contested in other constituencies,” he said.
The 16th Melaka state election will be held on Nov 14, with nomination day on Oct 31 and early voting on Nov 10.
In the previous state election, Barisan Nasional won 21 of the 28 state seats contested, while PH secured five. — Bernama
