KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 8 — The government has been urged to consider providing financial assistance to all Malaysian families whose relatives are still missing due to the floods and landslide disaster in Nepal last August.
The matter was proposed by Jelutong Member of Parliament RSN Rayer, who also urged the relevant departments or ministries to consider a moratorium on housing loans, personal bank loans, and vehicle purchases for all victims involved.
“I wish to appeal to the Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim), who will table the 2027 Budget tomorrow, to consider financial assistance for families of all affected victims,” he said at a press conference at the Parliament Building today.
Rayer also requested the National Registration Department (JPN) to facilitate the processing and issuance of documents such as death certificates to the affected families following the announcement that the Nepalese authorities will end search and rescue operations and declare the unrecovered victims as deceased.
Meanwhile, Rayer, who is also the Chairman of the Penang Hindu Endowment Board (PHEB), stated that the board has decided to provide a compassionate contribution of RM5,000 to each Hindu family of the tragedy victims who originate from Penang.
PHEB Deputy Chairman Senator Dr. R.A. Lingeshwaran said eligible families can apply for the assistance via a QR code displayed on PHEB’s official Facebook account and website.
