MELAKA, Sept 27 — The principle of justice must continue to be the cornerstone of PKR’s struggle as it faces the Melaka state election, said the party’s Advisory Council chairman Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.
She said the party’s struggle was not merely about gaining power, but about ensuring that every Malaysian received the justice they deserved.
“We want every Malaysian to have justice. That is what we uphold in our party and in our struggle,” she told reporters after launching the Melaka Wanita PKR election machinery here today.
Also present were prime minister’s political secretary Datuk Azman Abidin and Melaka Wanita PKR chief Mahani Masban.
Dr Wan Azizah, who is also Bandar Tun Razak MP said PKR members must remain steadfast in upholding the principle despite various challenges, including the departure of some members from the party.
She said PKR’s long experience had shown that change did not come easily, but required sustained effort and commitment from party members.
Dr Wan Azizah urged Melaka Wanita PKR to play an important role in garnering voters’ support and strengthening the party’s spirit of struggle at the grassroots level.
She also expressed hope that Wanita PKR would be given the opportunity to contest in the state election, with women making up at least 30 per cent of the total candidates.
Meanwhile, Azman said PKR could spring a surprise in Melaka if it had a disciplined, well-trained and committed election machinery.
He said the party’s machinery needed to work harder, given that PKR currently held no seats in the Melaka State Legislative Assembly. — Bernama
