KUCHING, Sept 25 — A witness who followed a hatchback believed to have been used by two men fleeing an attempted vehicle component theft helped police trace their movements and arrest one suspect here last night.
Padawan district police chief Supt Barry William said the incident occurred at about 8.40am yesterday at a workshop along Jalan Batu Kawa here.
He said the witness spotted two men allegedly attempting to steal components from a vehicle parked outside the workshop.
“A witness noticed two suspicious men trying to steal the components from a vehicle parked outside the workshop before they fled using the hatchback after being confronted.
“The witness, who is the driver of a four-wheel drive (4WD) managed to track down and tail the hatchback, thus helping police trace the suspects’ movements,” he said in a statement.
The hatchback was later found abandoned in Jalan Rantau Panjang.
Police subsequently arrested one of the suspects, a 25-year-old man, at about 9.15pm the same day.
A metal box and car key were also seized to assist investigations.
Police are continuing efforts to track down the other suspect or suspects believed to be involved.
The case is being investigated under Section 379 read with Section 511 of the Penal Code for attempted theft. — The Borneo Post
