GEORGE TOWN, Sept 4 — A 43-year-old local man was injured after he was believed to have been shot at a used-car workshop near a Chinese cemetery along Jalan Sungai Lembu in Machang Bubok yesterday.
Seberang Perai Tengah district police chief ACP Nik Aminuddin Raja Abdullah said police received a report on the incident at about 2.05pm.
“Initial investigations found that at about 1.05pm, the victim was approached by two men of unknown race on a motorcycle.
“One of the suspects is believed to have fired a shot towards the victim,” he said in a statement today.
The victim fled to the Chinese cemetery to save himself, while both suspects fled from the scene.
He sustained an injury and a fracture to his right palm.
“He is being treated in the hospital and is in stable condition,” Nik Aminuddin said.
Police found several items believed to be connected to the incident at the scene.
Nik Aminuddin said police are investigating to identify the suspects and establish the motive.
“The case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code,” he said
He called on those with information related to the case to contact their nearest police station or investigating officer ASP Muazzam Shaaban at 017-4825017.
He also advised the public not to speculate or spread unverified information about the incident.
