PUTRAJAYA, Aug 31 — A meeting to review the final preparations for the 2026 Malaysia Day celebration in Kuching, Sarawak, will be held on September 5, ahead of the main event at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) on September 16.

Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil said the official celebration would take place on the night of September 16, with various side events lined up around BCCK and Plaza Merdeka to enliven the Malaysia Day festivities.

“Various events will be held and have been lined up. For more information, refer to Merdeka360,” he told reporters after the 2026 National Day celebration at Dataran Putrajaya here today.

Fahmi, who is also chairman of the 2026 National Day and Malaysia Day (HKHM) main committee, said he was confident that Malaysians from across the country would attend the event, which would feature an exhibition tracing the history of Malaysia’s formation.

He said the main event at the convention centre was also expected to attract about 5,000 attendees.

Fahmi was previously reported to have said that BCCK had been chosen as the venue for the 2026 Malaysia Day celebration, following a decision made during a recent preparatory meeting with Sarawak Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, who is co-chairman of this year’s celebrations. — Bernama
