KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 31 — Political maturity and the awareness of balancing political rights with the responsibility of nation-building are important to ensure the stability of the Unity Government, said Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali.

In a Facebook post in conjunction with National Day today, he said the new political landscape of the country after the 15th General Election (GE15) needs to be accepted with the awareness that government stability is crucial in steering the direction of national development and the welfare of the people.

Armizan said that the political maturity demonstrated by the leadership in the Cabinet is built on awareness and unity to form a consensus of solidarity, thereby ensuring that the country has a government capable of steering the direction of development and the welfare of the people.

“I am amazed that even though the party activists have been ‘exchanging barbs’ with each other for the past few months, the relationship and interaction between the main leaders in every Cabinet Meeting has remained harmonious, constructive and professional,” he said.

He said the country’s new political landscape after the end of one-party dominance must be accepted by taking lessons from the experience between 2018 and 2022 which saw the change of three prime ministers and three Cabinet line-ups in one term.

“The change of three prime ministers and three Cabinet line-ups in one term are not a good formula for building sustainable prosperity for Malaysia,” he said.

Armizan said that political maturity and leadership within the Cabinet must be based on the awareness that the political rights of individuals and parties should be balanced with the responsibility to build the nation.

“This is the value and meaning of political maturity that is important to guide stability in the dynamics of Malaysia’s democratic and political landscape today and in the future,” he said.

In the same post, he also said that the National Month celebration is a platform for the people to express their unity in appreciating the blessings of independence and peace, while also translating it into a commitment to build the country’s future together.

“Every citizen, including leaders, civil servants, the business community, civil society activists and the general public, has their own role in the system of governance. Regardless of similarities or differences, this homeland belongs to every citizen,” he added. — Bernama
