KOTA BELUD, Aug 29 — In a scene reminiscent of another that brought down a glass door at the Kota Kinabalu International Airport earlier this month, a 61-year-old driver lost control of her Perodua Ativa and crashed into a Perodua Alza and car wash along Jalan Raya, Thursday.
Kota Belud District Police Chief Supt Khairul Shah Peri said the incident occurred at 9.30am after the woman had finished using the automatic car wash.
“Initial investigations found that the driver lost control of her vehicle after exiting the automatic car wash machine,” he said in a statement yesterday.
The Ativa then veered off and crashed into the Alza parked nearby before hitting the iron structure of the automatic car wash.
The impact damaged the structure, while both vehicles were also involved in the accident. However, the woman was not injured.
The case is being investigated under Regulation 10 of the Road Traffic Rules 1959 (LN 166/59).
In the incident at KKIA on August 7, a 66-year-old woman suffered minor injuries after the SUV she was driving crashed into the Level 3 departure hall area.
The incident was believed to have occurred after the woman forgot to engage the vehicle’s “P” gear, causing it to move slowly.
She reportedly panicked and stepped on the accelerator, causing the vehicle to surge forward and crash into the building.
The driver managed to get out of the vehicle before the collision but suffered minor facial injuries from flying glass shards.
Police advised motorists to remain cautious while driving, ensure their vehicles are in good condition and comply with all traffic laws and regulations to avoid accidents. — Daily Express
