KOTA TINGGI, Aug 26 — Police have arrested 12 men for their involvement in a brawl involving weapons in Taman Kota Jaya here earlier today.
Kota Tinggi police chief Superintendent Yusof Othman said authorities were alerted of the incident after receiving a call at 1.57am.
“Following that, the district police’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) team launched a pre-dawn operation and arrested 12 male suspects, aged 20 to 42, between 3am and 5am today.
“Investigators also seized 13 mobile phones, a wooden stick measuring 90 centimetres (cm) long, a baseball bat measuring 71cm and three cars during the operation,” he said in a statement today.
Yusof said the suspects and the seized items were taken to the Kota Tinggi district police headquarters for further investigation.
He said police are also actively tracking down other suspects who were involved in the brawl that police are probing under rioting.
Yusof urged the public who have information on the case to come forward and assist police in the investigation.
“Police are currently investigating the case under Section 148 of the Penal Code for possessing weapons or projectiles at a riot,” he said.
