JOHOR BAHRU, Aug 20 – Police have arrested five individuals, while three investigation papers opened following several recent cases involving the Malaysian flag and the Johor state flag being displayed upside-down in the state.

Johor deputy police chief Hoo Chuan Huat said the arrests were from three reported cases that were under the Kulai, Iskandar Puteri and Johor Bahru South police jurisdictions.

He said the investigation papers for all three cases are being completed and will soon be referred to the Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC) for further action.

“So far, police have opened three investigation papers involving the three cases.

“Out of the three cases, five arrests were made and investigations are still ongoing,” he told reporters at the Johor police contingent headquarters here today.

Hoo was responding to police action on the three recent cases in the state where several Jalur Gemilang flags and a Johor state flag were flown upside down at various locations.

He said the case in Kulai saw the arrest of two individuals, a 34-year-old man and a 48-year-old woman, who were detained to assist in the investigation.

“For the Johor Bahru South case, police arrested two men, aged 25 and 43, to assist the probe.

“The latest arrest was the incident in Iskandar Puteri yesterday where police arrested a 56-year-old man,” he said.

Hoo explained that all those arrested are believed to be employees of the respective business premises involved.

He said those arrested were later detained to assist investigators into the improper display of the national and state flags.

Hoo also reminded all business owners, supervisors and employees to pay attention and check on the display of national and state flags

In their respective premises.

He said this is important to ensure that slip-ups regarding the flags will not occur.
