IPOH, Aug 15 — Three Myanmar refugees comprising a man and his two sons, died while his wife was injured in a house fire in Taman Serai Maju, Bagan Serai, early this morning.
Perak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) director Datuk Sayani Saidon said the deceased victims were identified as Mohd Yunus Nor Ali, 27, Muhammad Woheed Mohd Yunus, 6, and Mohamad Aheed Mohd Yunus, 3, while the victim’s wife, Saniya Jahan Juma Abul Kasim, 24, who is also a Myanmar refugee, suffered burns on her hands and feet.
“The Perak JBPM received an emergency call through the MERS 999 line at 5.17am before the first vehicle arrived at the scene at 5.30am. When the team arrived, a Class A house measuring 20 feet x 40 feet, inhabited by seven foreign nationals, was on fire with damage estimated at around 70 per cent.
“The victim’s wife, who was found outside the house, said her husband and two children were still trapped inside the premises,” he said in a statement.
Sayani said that upon arriving at the location, his team immediately conducted a search and rescue operation using the RECEO concept before three victims were found in the first room that was on fire.
He said the medical officers from the Ministry of Health (MOH) who arrived at the scene confirmed that all three victims had died, while the injured woman was given initial treatment before being sent to hospital using the Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) vehicle.
He also said that the deceased victims had been handed over to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) for further action, and that the fire was brought under control at 6.20am, with the operation fully completed by 7.35am.
“A thorough investigation is being conducted at the scene to identify the actual cause of the fire and to estimate the losses.
“Based on the information and initial findings by the JBPM forensic team, the fire started in the first room, which is where the victims were found burned. The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage are still under investigation,” he added. — Bernama
