KUANTAN, Aug 12 — The Pahang crime index increased by 105 cases to 1,262 cases from January to July this year, compared to 1,157 cases for the same period last year.
Acting Pahang police chief Datuk Azry Akmar Ayob said the rate of resolving crime cases decreased to 59.58 per cent from 71.74 per cent.
“The increase (in crime index) was mainly driven by the rise in property crime cases, which increased to 1,023 cases, compared to 914 cases during the same period last year,” he said when speaking at the Pahang police contingent headquarters (IPK) monthly assembly here today.
He said the Pahang Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (JSJN) recorded 8,277 arrests in the first seven months of this year, compared to 8,243 arrests last year whereas the value of drug seizures decreased significantly to RM8.95 million, compared to RM25.8 million in the same period.
Meanwhile, he said the Pahang Commercial Crime Investigation Department (JSJK) opened 1,893 investigation papers from January to July this year, compared to 1,658 in the same period in 2025.
“A total of 1,380 arrests were made compared to 1,167 arrests last year, while the number of charge sheets increased to 769 from 633,” he said.
Azry Akmar said that although the number of commercial cases increased, the recorded loss value decreased 9.8 per cent to RM46.3 million, compared to RM51.3 million last year.
In an effort to assist scam victims, he said the Pahang JSJK via the National Scam Response Centre (NSRC) had seized RM355,355.15, with RM134,546.70 or 37.9 per cent of that amount being returned to the victims.
In terms of traffic aspects, he said the number of road accidents increased to 14,640 cases compared to 14,016 cases last year but the number of fatal accidents decreased to 242 cases compared to 265 cases in the same period.
He added that a total of 129,451 summonses for various traffic offences were issued by the Pahang Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT), with a total compound collection of RM4.94 million. — Bernama
