KUCHING, Aug 11 — AirBorneo Airways Sdn Bhd has joined the government-backed FLYsiswa air travel subsidy initiative, offering eligible Malaysian students a RM400 digital voucher to subsidise domestic economy flight tickets, the airline said in a statement today.
According to AirBorneo, the initiative, spearheaded by the Transport Ministry, is aimed at easing travel costs for students studying away from their home states, particularly those travelling between Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan.
AirBorneo chief executive officer Megat Ardian Aminuddin said the cost of air travel should not become an obstacle for students who need to return home during semester breaks, festive periods or emergencies.
“Education requires focus, dedication, and peace of mind. For many young Malaysians studying away from home, particularly between Peninsular Malaysia and Borneo, the cost of flight tickets should never be an obstacle to spending quality time with family,” he said.
He said AirBorneo’s participation in FLYsiswa reflected its commitment to community welfare and would help ease the financial burden on students and their families.
“We look forward to welcoming thousands of students on board our flights, ensuring they enjoy seamless, reliable and affordable travel home,” he said.
The airline said the FLYsiswa initiative is open to eligible Malaysian students enrolled at public universities, polytechnics, community colleges, matriculation colleges and teacher education institutes.
Eligible students can check their status through the Transport Ministry’s FLYsiswa portal and redeem the RM400 digital voucher when booking flights through AirBorneo’s website or mobile application, it said.
The voucher redemption period for AirBorneo flights runs from today until Nov 30, while bookings can be made for travel up to December 31.
AirBorneo said it is also offering additional baggage allowance and complimentary or discounted date-change options for FLYsiswa bookings, subject to its terms and conditions.
The airline said its network would provide students with direct access to key domestic destinations and regional hubs across Sarawak, Sabah and Peninsular Malaysia.
