ARAU, Aug 9 — Perlis Umno is preparing its machinery to contest all 15 state seats and three parliamentary constituencies on its own at the next election, state liaison chairman Datuk Rozabil Abd Rahman reprotedly said.

Berita Harian reported that Rozabil said there had so far been no official talks with any political party, including Perikatan Nasional (PN), on electoral cooperation in Perlis.

“What party members want, and what we have been working towards, is to continue working in all 15 state seats and three parliamentary constituencies,” he was quoted as saying last night.

He said the state chapter, which failed to win any seat in Perlis at the last election, would leave any eventual decision on electoral cooperation to the party’s national leadership.

Rozabil said some parties had approached him about meeting, but he considered such discussions premature and said the immediate priority was to ensure the party machinery continued working.

He also reportedly claimed the PN state administration had failed to deliver significant development, particularly economic opportunities and jobs for young people.

He said Umno’s machinery, including Wanita Umno’s Jalinan Rakyat network at polling districts, was already being mobilised as though an election could be held at any time.
